Maryland’s Alex Calarco has been named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Week 2 Player of the Week after hitting a pair of grand slams and driving in 13 runs in three consecutive games against Western Carolina. Calarco’s outstanding performance also helped the Terps set school records for runs and hits in a single game. He currently leads all Division I players with 20 RBIs this season.
Dating back to February 15, Calarco’s grand slam streak lasted through the first two games of the series against Western Carolina, where he had multiple hits and RBIs in each game. His impressive stats include hitting for the cycle in the first game and driving in six runs in the second game. Calarco’s consistent hitting and run production have earned him recognition as the Player of the Week.
