Every Graduate from FHSU Applied Technology Program Lands Job

Fort Hays State University’s Department of Applied Technology has achieved a 100 percent graduate job placement rate, a first in the department’s history. Department Chair Kim Stewart attributes this success to the robust internship program offered by the department, with nine credits dedicated to internships. The department also hosts successful career fairs which allow students to connect with potential employers.

In a report by FHSU’s Career Services, it was revealed that all students completing the survey indicated they had obtained a job or were seeking higher education. The department works closely with industry partners to create pathways for employment for its graduates. FHSU’s strategic affiliation with Fort Hays Tech NC and Fort Hays Tech NW aims to alleviate the housing shortage in Western Kansas by creating opportunities for students to become highly qualified construction workers and managers.

One key initiative under this affiliation is the new AAS degree in building/construction site management offered by Fort Hays Tech NC. The program allows students to spend one year at FHNC in construction technology and a second year at FHSU with some construction management courses. Credits earned at FHSU can then be transferred back to FHNC to earn the AAS degree, making graduates highly qualified in residential construction.

Overall, the success of FHSU’s Department of Applied Technology in achieving full graduate job placement highlights the effectiveness of the department’s internship program and strong industry partnerships in preparing students for successful careers in construction, manufacturing, and engineering/drafting.
