DC Attorney General files lawsuit against three Maryland men for outstanding traffic ticket debts – NBC4 Washington

D.C.’s Attorney General is cracking down on out-of-state drivers who have refused to pay fines from speed and red light cameras, thanks to the newly passed Steer Act. Under this law, prosecutors can now go after property and cash of these violators. Attorney General Brian Schwalb has already filed a lawsuit against three Maryland men who owe tens of thousands of dollars in fines.

One of the defendants, Earl Curtis, had racked up 82 speeding and red light running tickets in one year before hitting a young girl, resulting in serious injuries. Despite pleading guilty to reckless driving and spending time in jail, Curtis was still allowed to continue driving, much to the dismay of the victim’s mother.

The Attorney General emphasizes the importance of holding these violators accountable to address traffic violence and ensure the safety of pedestrians in the city. The lawsuit aims to enforce the law and go after these “scofflaws” to make them pay for their violations.
