Maryland legislators move forward with bill to create prescription drug affordability board

The Maryland House of Delegates has passed a bill allowing the Prescription Drug Affordability Board to extend its mandate to lower drug costs for all residents, not just government employees. The bill now moves to the state Senate for approval. Consumer advocates are optimistic that this move will lead to lower medicine prices for all Marylanders. Vincent DeMarco of the Maryland Health Care for All coalition emphasized the need to make drugs more affordable for everyone, especially as drug corporations continue to make significant profits. DeMarco urged the Senate to approve the bill and Governor Moore to sign it into law. The initiative is designed to function like a state utility commission and is seen as a step towards addressing the rising cost of prescription drugs. The 98-to-34 vote in favor of the bill was met with support from those hoping for more accessible and affordable healthcare options in Maryland.
