The Maryland Attorney General’s Office is ramping up efforts to build a case against Grace Ocean Private, the company that owned the Dali ship which collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The AG has requested communications information from Danish marine tech company ZeroNorth, which owns the SMARTShip software used to monitor vessels remotely. This request is part of the discovery phase in the case, which involves 55 parties suing Grace Ocean. The AG is aiming to prove negligence on the part of Grace Ocean in the operation and maintenance of the vessel. The first trial for the case is scheduled for June 2026. The AG’s office recently tried to expedite the trial by asking to sue in state court, but the motion was denied by the federal judge overseeing the case. The U.S. Justice Department has already settled with the companies involved for over $102 million to cover cleanup costs following the Key Bridge disaster. Grace Ocean also paid nearly $100,000 to the Coast Guard National Pollution Fund Center for oil pollution cleanup.
