Hunters in Maryland Bag 84,201 Deer in the 2024-2025 Season


Maryland hunters had a successful 2024-2025 season, harvesting a total of 84,201 deer. This number was 10% higher than the five-year average and 15.9% higher than the previous year. The harvest included both white-tailed and sika deer, with 32,148 antlered and 47,271 antlerless white-tailed deer, and 2,143 antlered and 2,639 antlerless sika deer.
Hunters in Frederick County reported the highest whitetail harvest, with a 4.9% increase from the previous year. Carroll County and Garrett County followed closely behind in terms of deer harvested.
Sunday hunting accounted for 11.2% of the total harvest, with hunters across Maryland enjoying successful hunts later in the season due to snow and cooler temperatures. Karina Stonesifer, director of the Wildlife and Heritage Service, thanked hunters for their role in managing the state’s deer population, stating that Maryland’s deer population remains healthy.
Overall, the harvest was higher in Region B compared to Region A, with a 16.5% increase from the previous year. The success of the 2024-2025 season reflects the dedication and skill of Maryland’s deer hunting community.
