Iair Horn, an Argentine Israeli, was kidnapped from his home in kibbutz Nir Oz along with his brother Eitan Horn, who remains in captivity. Sasha Alexander Troufanov, a Russian Israeli, was also abducted along with his family in the same kibbutz. Troufanov’s father was murdered while his female relatives were released last November. Hamas has announced that Troufanov will be freed separately by the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad. This decision follows Hamas’ reversal of a warning issued Thursday to indefinitely postpone hostage-prisoner swaps due to Israeli violations of the truce, after talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators on Wednesday. In the first phase of the deal, Hamas has released 16 of the 33 hostages, with the remaining to be released gradually over 42 days. Israeli officials reported that during the Hamas-led terror attack on Oct. 7, 2023, 1,200 people were killed and 251 captured. In response, Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 48,000 Palestinians and the displacement of most of the region’s 2.3 million population.
