The survey results show significant dissatisfaction with state and local officials’ handling of housing and supply issues, with 73% rating the governor and legislature as doing a poor or fair job. Many voters expressed concerns about the lack of affordable housing for moderate-income individuals, young people, those with low incomes, and older adults. Additionally, respondents highlighted challenges such as insufficient wages to match housing prices, high interest rates, and obstacles to making down payments on homes.
The poll underscores the urgent need for action to alleviate the housing crisis in Maryland and improve affordability for all residents. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development emphasized the importance of government intervention to address these challenges. Residents are calling for policymakers to prioritize housing affordability and implement effective solutions to ensure access to affordable housing for all Marylanders.
