Honoring the First Recipients of the Sony Women in Technology Award with a Natural Celebration


Sony Group Corporation and Nature have announced the recipients of the inaugural Sony Women in Technology Award, honoring outstanding early to mid-career women researchers in the field of technology. The award grants each winner a prize of $250,000 to support their technological research.

The winners include Dr. Kiana Aran, Dr. Amanda Randles, and Dr. Yating Wan, who were recognized at an award ceremony in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Aran was selected for her achievements in bioengineering, while Dr. Randles was awarded for her research in “digital twin” technology. Dr. Wan won the early career prize for her work in Silicon Photonics. Additionally, Dr. Jiawen Li received a Judges’ Commendation for her innovative work in medical imaging.

Hiroaki Kitano, CTO of Sony Group Corporation, and Magdalena Skipper, Editor-in-Chief of Nature, both highlighted the importance of promoting diversity and women in STEM fields. The program aims to support gender representation in the research community and inspire the next generation of women in technology.

Applications for the next cycle of the Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature will open on March 6, 2025.
