Geroy Simon, a Greater Johnstown High School graduate and Canadian Football League Hall of Fame member, is returning to his college roots as the executive director of revenue share management and general manager for University of Maryland athletics. Simon, who was one of the top receivers in Terrapins football history, officially accepted the position on Tuesday. He expressed his excitement about returning to Maryland, a place he considers his second home.
Having previously worked as the general manager for the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Elks, Simon brings valuable experience in managing football operations, budgeting, contract negotiations, and player personnel to his new role at the University of Maryland. With the landscape of college athletics evolving, Simon will focus on overseeing contract negotiations, particularly with the recent changes allowing college players to profit from their name, image, and likeness.
After playing football, basketball, and track and field at Greater Johnstown High School, Simon had a successful collegiate career at Maryland from 1993-1996. He ranks second all-time in career receptions and sixth in career receiving yards with the Terrapins. Simon also had a distinguished career in the CFL, setting records for receiving yards and receptions and winning three Grey Cup championships.
Simon’s return to Maryland will allow him to be closer to his family in Johnstown. He recognizes the evolving nature of college athletics and the need for responsible financial management in the new business-oriented environment. Simon’s expertise both on and off the field makes him a valuable addition to the University of Maryland athletics department.
