Maryland Sports Betting Sees $6.5 Million in Revenue in December


Maryland’s sports wagering program continues to thrive, with December 2024 generating $6.5 million for the state, bringing the fiscal year total to $46.6 million. These contributions support the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which benefits public education programs. The first half of Fiscal Year 2025 saw a significant increase in contributions compared to the same period in FY2024.

During December 2024, sports bettors in Maryland wagered $637 million, with $591 million in prizes won. The state currently has 11 mobile sports wagering platforms and 13 retail sportsbook locations. One of these retail locations, Long Shot’s in Frederick, reopened with Caesars Sportsbook as its new operator partner. Statewide totals for December 2024 show a combined handle of over $637 million, with a hold of $45.6 million and a taxable win of $43.4 million. This results in a sports wagering tax of $6.5 million for the state. Since the program’s inception in December 2021, Maryland’s sports wagering has contributed over $135 million to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund and over $3 million to the Problem Gambling Fund.
