Leadership Southern Maryland Examines Regional Challenges in Human Services and Housing – Southern Maryland News Network

Leadership Southern Maryland (LSM) Executive Program participants of the Class of 2025 gathered to address critical housing and human services challenges in the tri-county area. They learned about the needs of children, low-income families, individuals facing mental and behavioral health issues, and domestic violence survivors, as well as the scarcity of affordable housing in Southern Maryland. Cathy Meyers, Executive Director of the Center for Children, Inc., introduced the executives to Adverse Childhood Experiences assessments, which highlight how childhood trauma can impact adulthood. Additionally, participants engaged with specialists to understand the difficulties residents face in accessing community resources, affordable housing, and transportation.

Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of St. Mary’s County, the Hon. Amy Lorenzini, shared the court’s initiatives to provide legal assistance to county residents facing economic or mental health challenges, including the Family Law Court Help Clinic and the Family Recovery Court Program. The LSM Executive Program, a nine-month, tuition-based experience, aims to enhance the skills of senior professionals in addressing community needs. Applications for the Class of 2026 are now open for executives committed to serving Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. Visit www.leadershipsomd.org for more information.
