Men from DC, Maryland, and Virginia included in President Biden’s pardoning of nearly 1,500 individuals

President Joe Biden recently pardoned 39 individuals, including three men who had been convicted of non-violent drug offenses during the 1990s. Norman Brown, an active member of the D.C.-based nonprofit FAMM, had served 24.5 years for a crime he committed at the age of 22. Arthur Lawrence Byrd from Maryland has since worked as an equipment operator and volunteers at his local church. Brandon Sergio Castroflay, a Virginia resident and Army veteran, has dedicated his time to volunteering for Gold Star families and wounded service members.

President Biden, who also commuted the sentences of nearly 1500 other individuals, made headlines for granting the largest single-day act of clemency in modern American history. Biden emphasized the importance of second chances and extending mercy to those who have demonstrated remorse and rehabilitation. Compared to previous presidents, Biden has granted the highest number of clemency acts since taking office in 2017. This includes individuals sentenced for simple possession of marijuana and even his own son, Hunter, who had faced federal gun and tax charges.
