Maryland football lands four 4-star recruits on early signing day

Maryland football received a major boost with 20 commits pledging to the Terps on the early signing day for the class of 2025. Four-star quarterback Malik Washington was a standout, solidifying his commitment to Maryland despite interest from other teams. Coach Michael Locksley praised Washington for his talent and unwavering commitment.

In addition to Washington, the Terps signed three other four-star recruits from the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region. The class also includes a strong group of athletes and skill position players, with a total of six athletes signed in the cycle. Jayden Shipps, a versatile corner from Archbishop Spalding, is expected to make an impact in Maryland’s secondary.

The Terps added four defensive linemen, including highly sought after Bryce Jenkins, who is poised to compete for snaps in College Park. Locksley compared Jaylen Gilchrist, an interior offensive lineman, to NFL star Jedrick Wills.

Maryland’s class of 2025 is ranked No. 27 in the country, the ninth-best in the Big Ten. Out of the 20 commits, 11 will enroll early, showing the team’s commitment to building a strong foundation for the future. Locksley emphasized the importance of high school players in creating the team’s culture.

Overall, this recruiting class is seen as one of Locksley’s strongest, with Washington being a key piece to its success. The Terps’ future success will likely be judged based on the performance of this talented group of recruits.
