Maryland Department of Transportation has approved the use of artificial intelligence technology developed by NoTraffic to manage traffic in the state. The technology combines cameras and radar to monitor traffic conditions at intersections, allowing for high precision situational awareness in all weather conditions. The sensors placed at intersections will help officials understand traffic patterns, reduce carbon emissions, and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians by adjusting traffic signals based on real-time traffic flow. NoTraffic’s technology has been successful in 30 states, with assessments already underway in Maryland for a gradual rollout by 2025. The company’s Vice President, Tom Cooper, emphasized the potential to reduce traffic accidents, especially at intersections where most incidents occur due to red light violations. The use of this technology is expected to make roadways safer for everyone, representing a significant step towards improving traffic management and safety.
