The Department of the Interior has approved the construction and operations plan for the 2-GW Maryland Offshore Wind Project, allowing developer US Wind to begin construction. The project will consist of over a hundred wind turbines off the shores of Maryland and Delaware, helping to build the U.S. offshore wind supply chain. The approval signifies hope for a stronger industry supply chain after becoming the nation’s tenth commercial offshore wind farm. US Wind has been working for over four years to secure permits for the project, with plans to begin offshore construction in 2028. The company also filed a rebid application for 1,710 MW of offshore wind in Maryland. The project is expected to create American jobs and generate substantial economic investment in the state. Furthermore, the Environmental Protection Agency is accepting public comments on air quality permits for the New England Wind projects. The industry is working to reduce potential environmental impacts and support the growth of offshore wind energy in the United States.
