Maryland pair caught using shop vacuum to steal quarters from air pump machines

Two Maryland men, Wilbur Flores and Luis Vera, have been arrested in Gordon County, Georgia for allegedly stealing coins from coin-operated air compressors at local convenience stores. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office reported that the men, both 33 years old, used a crowbar and a shop vacuum to extract coins from a machine at a convenience store near Calhoun on Nov. 27. They also attempted a similar theft at another nearby store before being caught.

Deputies recovered over $1,000 in quarters and a stolen license plate during the arrest. A search warrant executed at a local motel revealed several thousand dollars in quarters. One of the suspects admitted to officers that they had been targeting machines from Maryland to Georgia. Both men are now facing charges related to the theft.

The incident highlights the lengths some individuals will go to for petty theft, and the law enforcement agencies involved are working to hold the men accountable for their actions.
