The 2024-2025 winter season in the Mid-Atlantic has brought chilly weather and snow, with Winter Weather Alerts issued for areas in western Maryland. This week, a quick-moving weather system is set to bring even more snow and harsh conditions, prompting Blizzard Warnings for Garrett County. The National Weather Service defines a blizzard as a storm with large amounts of snow or blowing snow, winds over 35 mph, and visibility of less than 1/4 mile for at least 3 hours. Garrett County is expected to see anywhere from 3 to 7 inches of snow, with isolated totals of up to 9 inches, benefitting ski resorts. As the snow moves past the mountain ridges, a wintry mix of snow and rain may reach the D.C. metro area, with little to no accumulation expected. Thursday afternoon will bring very windy and cold conditions, with highs only in the mid-30s and wind chills in the teens and low 20s, making for a cold end to the week.
