American model Alex Consani made history by becoming the first openly transgender person to win Model of the Year at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards. The 21-year-old thanked Black trans women who paved the way for her success, including Dominique Jackson and Connie Fleming. She also emphasized the importance of change in the fashion industry. Consani signed with IMG Models at just 15 years old and recently walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Known for her popular TikTok videos, she has walked for top luxury brands and appeared in music videos. Her outfit for the awards ceremony was a stunning off-white mini dress designed by Dilara Findikoglu. Other winners included Jonathan Anderson for Designer of the Year and Tom Ford for the Outstanding Achievement Award. Consani’s win marks a significant moment in the industry and highlights the progress being made towards greater diversity and inclusivity.
