Man dies after standoff and shootout with police in Howard County, investigators confirm

Howard County police responded to a domestic dispute in Laurel on Saturday, leading to a shootout and a more than two-hour standoff with an armed man. Body camera footage showed officers encountering the man, who exchanged gunfire with them. After the standoff, the man was found dead from gunshot wounds in the home, with several loaded firearms and a knife nearby. There were no other injuries reported. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigation Division has taken over the case, and the officers involved are on administrative leave. Neighbor Michael Cornish described the scene as chaotic, with police cars and a red truck with bullet holes in the area. A video shared by another neighbor showed the moment tactical forces entered the home. The attorney general’s office plans to release the names of the officers and the deceased, as well as body camera footage later this month. The investigation is ongoing, and more details might be revealed as it progresses.
