Utilizing Technology to Address Construction Errors: A New Best Practice Casebook

The latest 2024 Technology Report from the Get It Right Initiative highlights the collaboration between the construction and technology sectors to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and sustainability in construction projects. The report showcases major projects such as the HS2’s Colne Valley viaduct, San Francisco international airport, and London’s Western Yard’s development, where innovative technologies like virtual and augmented reality, Internet of Things sensors, and Digital Twin technology are being used to improve project design, planning, and monitoring.

The report, based on previous research that identified 17 root causes of error in construction, emphasizes the importance of technology solutions in reducing errors and enhancing productivity in the industry. The Get It Right Initiative, a membership group of over 100 UK construction industry experts, is actively working to reduce errors in the sector by bringing together technology providers and industry leaders to share, test, and learn from technology solutions.

GIRI Executive Director, Cliff Smith, stresses the need for digital tools to be combined with people and processes to be effectively implemented in construction projects. Report author and chair of GIRI’s Technology Working Group, John Priestland, highlights the real-world examples of technology in use in the report, demonstrating the effectiveness of these tools in driving learning and innovation in the industry.

The 2024 GIRI Technology Report is available for download at the Get It Right Initiative website, aiming to inspire design and construction firms to adopt digital tools and encourage technology providers to continue developing new solutions for the industry.
