Several states, including Maryland, are recalling cucumbers due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall affects 26 states in total, with cucumbers being sold at various retailers. The concerns arose after routine testing revealed the presence of Salmonella in some cucumbers.
Consumers who have purchased cucumbers in the affected states are advised to not consume them and return them to the store for a full refund. Salmonella can cause serious illness, especially in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
The affected cucumbers were sold in various packaging, including bulk displays and in plastic-wrapped packages. Retailers have been instructed to remove the cucumbers from shelves to prevent further exposure.
Consumers are urged to wash their hands thoroughly after handling cucumbers and to clean any surfaces that the cucumbers may have come into contact with. If experiencing symptoms of Salmonella infection after consuming cucumbers, individuals are encouraged to seek medical attention promptly.
