The Maryland State Board of Elections does not have a complete statewide map of Maryland precincts, so The Baltimore Banner took on the task of compiling as many maps from counties as possible and approximating the others. They used computational techniques to estimate precinct boundaries and created geographic voting blocs based on polling places to visualize the results. As of now, they have collected precinct maps for 13 counties and will continue to update the map as more information becomes available.
Some of the precincts displayed are rough approximations due to the lack of official maps. The Baltimore Banner created this map to fill the void left by the absence of an official statewide map of Maryland precincts since the 2022 mayoral election. Counties with approximated precincts include Allegany, Caroline, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Saint Mary’s, Washington, and Worchester.
The goal of The Banner in creating this map is to provide Marylanders with access to precinct-level voting information that they have been without for weeks, while other states have it available on election night. By allowing residents to see how their neighborhood voted, The Banner hopes to fill a gap and provide valuable information to the community.
