In August, Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported $5.6 million in state tax revenue from sports betting, pushing the total over $100 million since December 2021. Operators generated $37.2 million in adjusted gross sports betting revenue, more than double the previous August. The state collected $47.6 million in receipts through the first eight months of 2024, up significantly from last year.
Maryland has seen a surge in handle, with $377.4 million in wagers accepted in August, an increase of 43.1% year-over-year. FanDuel continues to lead the way, with $18.3 million in gross revenue for the month. DraftKings and BetMGM also performed well.
Parlays were the top revenue source for Maryland sportsbooks in August, bringing in $22.1 million in winnings. Baseball was the largest sport-specific revenue generator at $5.5 million. The “other” category, which includes table tennis, provided $3.5 million in revenue.
Overall, Maryland sportsbooks have seen significant growth in revenue and handle in 2024. FanDuel and other top operators continue to perform strongly, with FanDuel surpassing $200 million in gross winnings for the year. The state is now the 14th to exceed $100 million in state tax revenue since the legalization of sports betting.
