What occurred in Richard Allen’s trial this week?

Richard Allen reached out to authorities about the double murder of two middle school students in Indiana five years before he was charged with their killings. The information was marked as cleared in a lead sheet, but was discovered by a volunteer clerk in 2022, leading to Allen’s arrest. In court, his lawyers claim he is innocent and suggest the killings could have been part of a ritual sacrifice.

During the trial, witnesses discussed seeing a man covered in mud and blood near where the girls’ bodies were found, challenging the prosecution’s timeline of events. One witness, Railly Voorhies, identified the man from a Snapchat video as the same man she had seen on the trail.

Law enforcement officers who followed up on leads related to the killings testified that Allen had provided information about being in the area the day the girls were killed. They initially marked the lead as cleared, but upon further investigation, it was determined that Allen’s information was valuable to the case.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Allen’s home and found a .40 caliber Sig Sauer handgun matching a bullet found near the victims. This evidence, along with witness testimonies, led to Allen’s arrest. The trial also included ballistics experts who testified about how they matched the bullet to Allen’s gun. Ultimately, the prosecution aims to prove Allen’s guilt in the murders of Liberty German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, while the defense maintains his innocence.
