Less than two weeks before Election Day, a CNBC poll shows a tight race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris nationally and in key battleground states. Trump leads on economic issues, while Harris leads on character issues such as honesty and fitness to be president. The poll also reveals that inflation is a significant concern for voters, with many feeling their income is falling behind the cost of living. Harris is ahead of Trump in terms of fitness and honesty, while Trump leads on economic matters and helping small businesses.
42% of voters believe they would be better off financially if Trump wins, compared to 24% if Harris wins. When asked which candidate would bring positive change for the country, Harris narrowly edges out Trump, but both fall short of what is needed to win the presidency. Meanwhile, Trump is slightly more popular than Harris nationally, but their ratings are similar in battleground states.
In the battle for control of Congress, 48% of voters prefer Republicans, while 44% want Democrats in charge. This same preference is reflected in the combined battleground states. The poll was conducted among 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, and among 586 battleground voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The data suggests a close race for the presidency and control of Congress as Election Day approaches.
