Three people were killed and 14 were injured in a terrorist attack at the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries in Turkey. The interior minister condemned the attack as “heinous” and stated that two of the attackers had been killed. The facility manufactures fighter jets and other equipment for NATO and is located about 20 miles north of Ankara. The mayor of the district where the factory is based reported that the attackers arrived in a Yellow taxi and there were two explosions at the site.
Turkey has been dealing with an insurgency by ethnic Kurds, with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) being outlawed as a terrorist group by Turkey and the United States. The attack occurred one day after an ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested that the PKK’s leader could speak in parliament if the fighting ceased.
The motive behind the attack is still unknown and investigations are ongoing. The minister expressed condolences for the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. This is a developing story and further updates are expected.
