Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban recently campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris in Arizona. During the event, a man asked Cuban about unrealized gains taxes, to which he assured the audience that Harris would not tax unrealized gains. Cuban criticized the idea of taxing unrealized gains, calling it an “economy killer,” and stated that Harris has not specifically spoken about it. Former President Donald Trump has made comments equating taxing unrealized gains to communism.
Cuban expressed his strong opposition to taxing capital gains, stating that if such a tax were to be implemented, he would campaign against Harris. While Harris has endorsed President Biden’s fiscal year 2025 budget, which includes tax increases on incomes exceeding $100 million, the campaign has not specifically addressed the issue of taxing unrealized gains.
Cuban, known for his outspoken views, has been a vocal surrogate for the Harris-Walz campaign, deviating from typical Democratic talking points. He criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies while campaigning in Arizona. Other high-profile surrogates, such as actor Bryan Cranston, have also emphasized the importance of voting in the upcoming election.
Despite Cuban’s comments and concerns about taxing unrealized gains, the Harris-Walz campaign has not provided a clear stance on the issue. The campaign declined to comment when asked for clarification. Harris has remained loyal to Biden throughout her tenure as vice president, reflecting a tradition of vice president’s not being openly critical of the president.
