N.C. judge advocates for release of convicted killer in Michael Jordan’s father’s murder case

A retired North Carolina judge, Gregory Weeks, has petitioned the state’s parole commission to release Daniel Green, who was convicted of the 1993 murder of Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan. Green and his co-defendant, Larry Demery, were both 18 years old at the time of the fatal shooting during a botched robbery. Weeks’ petition details are confidential as parole commission hearings are not open to the public. James Jordan was found shot in his red Lexus, a gift from his son, and his body was identified through dental records in a South Carolina swamp days after the killing. Green was convicted of murder during a robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Demery testified that Green was the one who pulled the trigger, and Demery pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, receiving a life sentence like Green. Green has maintained his innocence, stating that he did not kill James Jordan but admitted to helping dispose of the body. Both Weeks and Michael Jordan have not commented on the situation.
