Kenzie Lewellen went into labor at home in Port Charlotte, Florida, as Hurricane Milton approached the Gulf Coast. With their house already flooding, Kenzie and her boyfriend, Dewey Bennett, knew they needed to get to the hospital before the storm made transportation difficult. Despite the challenges of the storm, they decided to head to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice for the birth.
Throughout the journey to the hospital, Kenzie was in labor for 4 1/2 hours, and they arrived with only her mother allowed to accompany her inside due to restrictions. Despite the difficulties and concerns, Kenzie successfully gave birth to a healthy baby boy through a cesarean section.
After enduring the challenges of labor and delivery during a hurricane, Kenzie and Dewey welcomed Dewey Lester Bennett IV into the world at 11:45 p.m. ET. The couple expressed their joy and relief at the safe arrival of their son, who brought light and happiness to their lives, despite the difficulties they faced.
Reflecting on the experience, Kenzie felt grateful for the support of the hospital staff and her family, while Dewey couldn’t stop smiling after holding his newborn son. They both agreed that baby Dewey was a miracle and would have a unique story to tell about his birth during Hurricane Milton. As they looked at their son, their hearts were full of love and hope for the future.
