Fisher-Price has issued a partial recall for its Snuga Swings, warning parents not to use them for sleep due to a risk of suffocation. The recall includes removal of the swing’s headrest and seat pad insert to reduce the risk. Consumers are eligible for a $25 refund if they follow the recall instructions. However, a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission commissioner criticized the recall, calling for the entire product to be recalled and customers to be fully reimbursed.
In the past, Fisher-Price has faced safety concerns with other infant products, including the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers, which were recalled in 2019 after reports of infant deaths. The company continued to market the product despite evidence of safety risks.
Furthermore, infant deaths have been linked to other Fisher-Price products such as the Rock ‘n Glide Soother. Despite recalls and warnings, additional deaths have occurred with Fisher-Price’s Infant-to-Toddler Rockers and Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers, although the company did not recall these products and instead reminded customers not to use them for sleep.
Experts recommend placing infants on their backs on a firm, flat surface for sleep or naptime to reduce the risk of suffocation. Fisher-Price products should not be used for sleep, and consumers should always follow safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of their infants.
