Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has accepted an invitation to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump on Oct. 23, hosted by CNN. Harris’ campaign chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon said that the American people deserve another opportunity to see the candidates debate before casting their ballots. Trump’s campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung referred to a post on Truth Social where Trump stated that there would be no third debate, citing that they do not think it is necessary. Trump also mentioned in an interview and at a rally that it is too late for another debate as voting has already started.
The potential debate would come less than two weeks before Election Day and several weeks into early voting in multiple states. O’Malley Dillon’s statement comes after the first debate between Trump and Harris on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC. This would be the second debate between the two major-party nominees, as Trump had also debated President Joe Biden on CNN in June while Biden was still in the race. CNN has not yet provided a comment on the potential second debate. Harris had expressed interest in having another debate, and the campaign believes that it is important for voters to have this opportunity before making their decision.
