President Joe Biden’s administration has been praised as being the most pro-LGBTQ in history. In a historic interview with the Washington Blade, a D.C.-based LGBTQ newspaper, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to the community and discussed former President Donald Trump’s policies towards LGBTQ issues. Biden praised the community’s progress, such as the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” and legal challenges to laws targeting transgender people during his presidency. He also noted that he has appointed more LGBTQ officials to his administration than any other in American history.
Biden expressed admiration for the courage of openly LGBTQ individuals and celebrated Sarah McBride’s primary victory, making her the first transgender member of Congress, as a sign of progress. However, he also spoke about challenges faced by all Americans, particularly criticizing Project 2025, a conservative agenda with disdain for LGBTQ rights. He pledged to continue advocating for the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity at the federal level.
Biden emphasized the importance of equality and dignity for all individuals, stating that his actions are driven by a belief in fairness and decency. He expressed hope for a more inclusive future for LGBTQ individuals in America. Despite the progress made, he acknowledged the ongoing work needed to protect and advance LGBTQ rights.
