All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers has been ruled out of this weekend’s game due to lingering calf and Achilles injuries, with the possibility of being placed on injured reserve for at least four more weeks. Despite hopes of playing, McCaffrey experienced pain in practice and was unable to participate.
Coach Kyle Shanahan stated that discussions will be held regarding McCaffrey’s status, especially after his worst day of pain during practice. General manager John Lynch highlighted McCaffrey’s frustration and the team’s focus on the long-term view, recognizing his impact as an elite player in the league.
Jordan Mason stepped up in McCaffrey’s absence, rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown in a victory over the New York Jets. The Minnesota Vikings will also be without receiver Jordan Addison, who injured his ankle in Week 1.
The Niners will have defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos back after missing the opener, while safety Talanoa Hufanga is doubtful and linebacker Dee Winters is questionable due to injuries. Minnesota listed three players as questionable as well.
Overall, the status of key players due to injuries will impact the upcoming game between the 49ers and the Vikings, with both teams making adjustments to their lineups accordingly.
