The 5th World Nomad Games kicked off in Astana, Kazakhstan, attracting athletes and visitors from 91 countries. The event showcases 21 traditional nomadic sports, including Kokpar, horseback archery, Mas-Wrestling, horseback wrestling, and Asyk Atu. Kokpar involves a sheep carcass as a ball, while horseback archery tests riders’ speed and skill. Mas-Wrestling requires immense strength and is likened to a tug of war. Horseback wrestling sees topless men on horseback grappling until a clear victory is declared. Asyk Atu is an intellectual board game using sheep knuckle bones. The event, with a medieval touch, offers a unique and exhilarating experience for sports enthusiasts. The games, which run until September 13, promise a showcase of strength, skill, and tradition as athletes compete in these ancient nomadic sports.
