The St. Mary’s County Health Department has expanded its Harm Reduction Program services to the main office in Leonardtown, in addition to the Health Hub in Lexington Park. The program offers services such as medication treatment for opioid use disorder, safe disposal of syringes, Hepatitis C and HIV testing, and overdose response training. Dr. Meena Brewster, St. Mary’s County Health Officer, emphasizes the importance of harm reduction programs in reducing infection and disease transmission, preventing fatal overdoses, and connecting individuals with substance use disorder to treatment and recovery support services. Community members can access these services on a walk-in basis from Monday through Friday. The expansion aims to make it easier for individuals in the county to access confidential help.
