Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day recently visited Worcester County to learn more about the needs of the area as part of the DHCD’s Day Trip tour. During the visit, Secretary Day, along with local officials, discussed the ongoing investments made by DHCD in Worcester County, totaling over $42 million for affordable housing, broadband infrastructure, revitalization efforts, and homelessness support services.
Partnerships with state agencies, like DHCD, play a crucial role in advancing projects and initiatives in Worcester County, according to Worcester County Commission President Chip Bertino. The collaboration between state and local partners has led to the rehabilitation of homes, the development of parks and recreation areas, and the attraction of businesses to the area.
During the visit, Secretary Day and DHCD staff toured downtown Pocomoke City, visited ongoing redevelopment projects, and inspected homes being rehabilitated in Snow Hill through the department’s Special Targeted Applicant Rehabilitation Program. The day concluded with a roundtable discussion at the Snow Hill Firehouse, where officials from various cities in Worcester County shared their needs and feedback with DHCD.
The visit was part of DHCD’s efforts to directly engage with Maryland communities and ensure that no one is left behind in the state’s development initiatives. The ongoing partnership between state and local agencies will continue to support vibrant and thriving communities in Worcester County.
