The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in Kenya has suspended Joseph Kimote as Managing Director amid an ongoing fertilizer scandal. Samuel Karogo, the Finance and Accounting General Manager, will serve as the acting MD. The decision was made following the arrest of Kimote, along with other officials, in connection with the fake fertilizer scandal. The officials were arrested after the Director of Public Prosecution approved charges against them. Investigations also implicated government agencies responsible for handling the fake fertilizer, including the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and suppliers. The Ministry of Agriculture advised farmers to stop using the counterfeit fertilizer and announced legal action against the manufacturer. As a response to the scandal, the Ministry directed NCPB to recall all substandard fertilizers distributed to farmers. The impeachment motion against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was also linked to the scandal. The move to suspend Kimote and other officials was made to ensure that work at NCPB continues smoothly. Samuel Ragwa, the NCPB chairman, confirmed the decision to suspend the MD and other officials involved in the scandal. The Ministry of Agriculture is conducting an escalating probe into the matter to address the issues with the fake fertilizer.
