Maryland State Police Increasing Patrols for Independence Day Weekend
The Maryland State Police is ramping up patrols on the state’s roads during the Independence Day holiday weekend. Troopers from the Berlin and Salisbury barracks will be focusing their efforts on U.S. 50 and U.S. 13 in an effort to ensure road safety. State Police are reminding individuals that if they host a gathering where alcohol is served, they could be held liable if someone at the event is later involved in an impaired driving crash.
To help prevent these types of incidents, the State Police Impaired Driving Reduction Effort (SPIDRE) Team will be deployed. This specialized unit is trained to identify impaired drivers and will be actively monitoring the roads throughout the holiday weekend.
In Ocean City, drivers should be aware of traffic changes leading up to the Independence Celebration taking place on Thursday night. Increased patrols and traffic modifications will be in place to ensure the safety of all motorists during the holiday festivities.
As the holiday weekend approaches, all drivers are reminded to practice safe driving habits, obey traffic laws, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Maryland State Police are committed to keeping the roads safe for all travelers and will be taking proactive measures to prevent impaired driving incidents during the Independence Day celebrations.
