Two people are dead and another injured after a police pursuit in Maryland led to a fiery crash in Southeast Washington. The pursuit began after Anne Arundel County police officers engaged a white BMW suspected of being involved in armed robberies. The car was pursued through Prince George’s County, with assistance from the U.S. Park Police aviation unit.
The BMW crashed into a tree and caught fire in a residential area in Southeast Washington. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The gender and identities of the deceased were not released by police.
Police recovered a firearm believed to have been tossed out of the car during the pursuit. Anne Arundel County officers had been investigating cases of robberies at local banks in the area where the pursuit began.
Residents near the crash site expressed concern about the length of the pursuit, with one neighbor questioning the authorities’ choices in pursuing the vehicle, especially considering the risks involved.
