Biden Meets with Governors to Secure Backing Following Reassurance to Campaign Team: ‘No One is Trying to Force Me Out’ – Live Updates on US Elections 2024

Amid speculation and calls for him to step down, President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with nearly all of the nation’s Democratic governors, including Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and Andy Beshear. Some governors will be attending in person while others will join virtually to show support for Biden. Governor Wes Moore of Maryland emphasized that Biden should not take himself out of the race.

While there have been increasing doubts about Biden’s ability to win in November, Democratic representative Seth Moulton has suggested that all viable options should be considered. Despite calls for him to step down, former White House medical adviser Anthony Fauci believes that Biden has the mental capability to continue in office.

A CNN poll revealed that 71% of Americans doubt that former President Donald Trump would concede if he lost the election, while 78% believe Biden would accept the results if he lost. Meanwhile, Netflix co-founder and Democratic Party megadonor Reed Hastings has called for Biden to step down to allow a stronger Democratic leader to take on Trump.

Amidst concerns and discussions over a potential replacement for Biden, Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan expressed interest in meeting with members of a far-right militia who plotted to kidnap and kill her. Whitmer’s book, “True Gretch: What I’ve Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between,” scheduled for release next week, may provide further insight into her experiences in dealing with threats from the far right. Rumors have linked Whitmer as a possible replacement for Biden, although she has expressed no interest in seeking the presidency.
