Attorneys for Donald Trump are requesting that the sentencing in his hush money case be postponed and the trial verdict be set aside following the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. They argue that the Manhattan district attorney should not have been able to offer evidence at trial concerning Trump’s official acts as president. Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records is being challenged and his attorneys are seeking to postpone sentencing. The charges stem from a hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the final weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Supreme Court’s ruling limits the evidence that can be used at trial. Many of the actions entered into evidence occurred before Trump took office and some actions related to his presidency are off-limits to prosecutors. The district attorney’s office declined to comment on the matter. The Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump’s federal election interference case is expected to further delay the trial, ensuring that it will not start before Election Day.
