Maryland’s Sports Wagering Generates Close to $7 Million in Revenue in May


Maryland’s sports wagering market continued to thrive in May 2024, generating nearly $7 million in contributions to the state from a total handle of over $431 million. This marked a significant increase from the previous year, with contributions to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund supporting public education programs. In the first 11 months of Fiscal Year 2024, sports wagering had already contributed over $54 million to the fund.

Detailed data for each sportsbook in May 2024, including handle, hold percentage, prizes paid, and contribution to the state, is available for download. The statewide totals for May showed a combined handle of over $431 million, with retail and mobile wagering both seeing significant growth. The taxable win amounted to over $46 million, resulting in a sports wagering tax contribution of nearly $7 million.

Since the launch of Maryland’s sports wagering program in December 2021, the cumulative contribution to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund has exceeded $82 million. Additionally, over $3 million in expired prizes have been contributed to the Problem Gambling Fund.
