Ann Wilson, lead singer of classic rock band Heart, has announced that she is undergoing preventive chemotherapy after a successful operation to remove cancerous cells. The band has postponed all remaining dates on their North American tour as Wilson takes time to recover. Wilson, 74, did not specify the type of cancer she has but stated that she plans to return to the stage in 2025. Preventive chemotherapy is a treatment conducted after initial treatment like surgery to prevent cancer from returning.
Wilson’s statement comes after the band canceled their European tour due to a medical procedure she had undergone, which required a minimum recovery time of six weeks. The band had kicked off their tour in the United States in April and was scheduled to perform in Europe before returning to the U.S. in July. Wilson encouraged fans to hold onto their concert tickets as they would be honored on rescheduled dates.
Heart, which also features Wilson’s sister Nancy Wilson, had been performing hits like “Barracuda” on various shows before Wilson’s health concerns led to the tour postponement. Wilson expressed gratitude to fans for their support and stated that this is just a pause in her career as she plans to be back on stage in the future. Her physicians have advised her to take the rest of the year off to fully recover, emphasizing that she has more music to share with her fans in the years to come.
